The last thing that you want to run into as a driver is a broken down car on the side of the road. While there are some situations where you can’t avoid it, there are plenty of things that a driver can do to nearly completely eliminate the need for roadside assistance. Highway 30 Garage is here to share some tips that will hopefully help you keep your car on the road and avoid the need for roadside assistance.
How to Avoid Roadside Assistance
As a driver, there are several things that you can do to fool proof your vehicle and help avoid the need for emergency towing or roadside assistance.
– Check Fluids: There are several fluids that are necessary in your vehicle running well. Things like the oil, coolant, transmission fluid and more are necessary for a well running vehicle. Before you set off on any sizable trip, make sure you’re checking these fluids to make sure your vehicle has what it needs to run well.
– Check the Tires: Another common reason that people are on the side of the road and calling a towing company is a flat tire. This can be avoided when you check your tires and the air pressure inside of them before leaving home. Make sure that you read the manual and know how many pounds of pressure you need in each tire. Do a visual check of the tire to check for any damage to the tire as well before leaving on a long trip.
– Service the Brakes: Your brakes are an essential part of driving your vehicle safely. You need to have your brakes serviced and the suspension checked by your mechanic on a regular schedule to keep your vehicle safe to drive. If you have suspension issues or your brakes stop working, it can be a dangerous situation.
– Monitor Gas Levels: Most vehicles on the road still rely on gas to get them from one place to another. However, now there are plenty of electric cars that power your vehicle as well. Either way, make sure you have the gas or electricity to get you safely to your destination so you aren’t stranded.
– Pack an Emergency Kit: It is always wise to have an emergency kit in your vehicle anytime you’re traveling. This should have a blanket, flashlight, jumper cables, water and food. A bonus if you have some orange cones in your kit that can alert other drivers that you’re stranded on the side of the road so they don’t hit you.
